Dr. Cindy Trimm interviews the original "Aunt Viv" from the hit sitcom
the Fresh Prince of Bel Air Monday, April 9 on the global broadcast,
"How To Do This Thing Called Life!"
PHOENIX - Actress Janet Hubert, best known as the original Vivian Banks from the hit sitcom "Fresh Prince of Bel Air," will be the featured guest on the global Internet radio broadcast How To Do This Thing Called Life! on Monday, April 9 at 2PM PST and 5PM EST on www.voice.voiceamerica.com . Hubert and show host Dr. Cindy Trimm will discuss the importance of individuality.
"Every single day we see thousands and millions of people who blend into society and who are afraid to defy the status quo," said Dr. Trimm, an internationally renowned empowerment specialist and world leader. "Yet, there are many who have decided that they are going to be themselves and pursue their purpose and destiny. These are the individuals who have made names for themselves. They have produced products that we are buying. They are producing and rendering services and goods on a daily basis that are changing the global landscape of our world. They have decided that they will blend out, not in, and that there is such a thing as a 'brand called me.'" Hubert, she said, is one of those amazing people who have defied the status quo and decided to blend out and embrace her own uniqueness.
"Since my childhood I have always refused to follow the status quo," said Hubert who starred on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air from 1990 to 1993. "I never desired to look like anyone else, act like anyone else, dress like anyone else or even to be like anyone else. The world constantly tells us to fit in or to be a part of . but I've never wanted that."
Hubert credits her mother with instilling a spirit of uniqueness in her life.
"I was a little black girl - a dark skinned black girl - growing up in the sixties," she said. "My mother would say to me that you are a queen. You must always hold your head up. She would say don't sit and slouch, don't bow your head, stand up straight and stand up tall. Be an individual. These words stuck with me all of my life."
Hubert, a native of New York , has appeared on television shows such as the Gilmore Girls, Bernie Mac, NYPD Blue, Dennis Leary's the JOB, the Jamie Foxx Show and Friends. She recently launched a new line of merchandise for children that promotes an inward and outward sense of purpose, destiny, pride and individuality called the "J.G. and the B.C. Kids" line. Products include bedding, bath items, backpacks, t-shirts and an upcoming animated series.
"There's happiness and fun waiting along the path to individuality," said Hubert. "I'm happy to be a part of something that promotes this journey."
